From Ancient Braids to Contemporary Fades.
When food meets art, something profound happens.
This Black History Month, Amai’kiye had the honour of collaborating with Netflix for the unforgettable exhibition From Ancient Braids to Contemporary Fades by Stanley Emeka Onah, a visual celebration tracing the evolution of Black hairstyling, from ancestral Africa to modern - day expression. To be called upon to adorn this cultural moment with our canapés was both a joy and an honour. The event brought together an inspiring collective of creatives, including Caroline Chinakwe, Yeside Linney, and Kevin Fortune - each of whom continues to shape conversations around identity, art, and legacy.
As the evening unfolded, guests were treated to a thoughtfully curated selection of Amai’kiye’s signature canapés, each a story in itself:
Jollof Arancini with Ata Din Din Aioli
A reimagined classic marrying West African comfort with Italian finesse, the aioli adding a smoky, spicy balance that danced on the palate.
Suya-Spiced Chicken Bites with Mango & Red Pepper Ceviche
A vibrant, flavour-packed morsel that brought fire, sweetness, and freshness in equal measure, cleansing and exciting the palate.
Dehydrated Plantain Bellini with Grilled Oyster Mushroom & Avocado Mousse
Our crowd-favourite plant-based indulgence, layered with umami, creaminess, and a hint of tropical nostalgia.
Naija Guinness Cake
To close the evening on a note of indulgence, elevated with miso and Porte Noire Cognac Chantilly cream, an ode to depth, luxury, and pure decadence.
It was an evening that celebrated Black creativity, heritage, and excellence where artistry met flavour, and every bite told a story of home, pride, and possibility.
To the visionary Stanley Onah, thank you for your masterful work and for allowing Amai’kiye to be part of such an important cultural moment.
