An Evening with Chinakwe x King the Chef
Where art melds with food.
There are collaborations that simply make sense — moments when creative energies align so naturally they feel destined. An Evening with Chinakwe x King the Chef was one of those moments.
Hosted at the Chinakwe Pop-Up in Notting Hill, the evening brought together two creative worlds — fashion and food — both deeply rooted in culture, expression, and identity. Caroline Chinakwe’s bold, unapologetic artistry found its match in my own culinary philosophy — a celebration of heritage through modern storytelling.
The evening also marked the launch of the AMAI’KIYE x CHINAKWE Tableware Collection — dinner plates adorned with everything our ancestors imagined. The details, the complexity, the depth — each design spoke to heritage and the beauty of identity reclaimed. These pieces were not merely tableware, but canvases — each one carrying the quiet power of those who came before us.
The menu itself told the story of home through flavour: Jollof rice, Suya-spiced chicken, and plantain bellinis topped with charred avocado and mushroom pâté — each plate a conversation between past and present. The night concluded with the only fitting celebration for a fellow “26-er”: my signature Naija Guinness Cake, which, I’m honoured to say, has now become Caroline’s favourite.
The evening was alive with warmth, laughter, and the shared language of creativity. As I looked around the room, I was reminded why collaboration matters — it allows us to weave our stories together and honour the journey of home in new forms.
To remember home is to remember who we are.
